What is culture? What is my culture?

CULTURE: the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. The central concept of in anthropology, encompassing the range of phenomena that are transmitted through social learning in human societies.

Here is how I see American culture, in Huntsville especially, the history preserved within the neighborhoods, parks/museums, education, and restaurants. Downtown Huntsville is made of historic districts, such as Old Town and Twickenham. I live on the outskirts of Old Town and live in a historical house within the historic society, meaning there are limits and restrictions of what can be done to the house in which could tatter its historical significance. There are historical tours and signs all around the neighborhood and downtown around the buildings and parks. The appreciation Huntsville has for its historical importance in the way of living and education, such as the Space and Rocket Center, plays a huge role in the culture here. American culture is about learning about the past and understanding it to fit into the modern roles in society. You can expect all sorts of food and activities around the cities and states of America, each one having its own speciality, each one contributing to America's "melting pot" culture all around.

A cross cultural experience I have had was when I went to Jamaica right before Kindergarten and saw how the normal life outside the resort was much more different then back in America. The houses were not very developed, neither was the health or education, people all around were making and creating things to sell even though the money there was scarce. The people there were also more family oriented, everyone talked to each other there were no barriers. The culture was more restricted and down to earth than the free and superficial culture of America.
