History Freak Show Research

Freak Show - I want to research how the concepts of "strange", "odd", "weird" changes throughout the late 19th century. I want to find out how people categorized others into these abnormalities. I already have an idea on how to tie this into urbanization, since urbanization was the rise of everything new and these "strange" people were nothing more than new, but people were scared and overwhelmingly fascinated and so they put them in the unknown corner. The questions I would want answered are "What kind of people had the right to categorize? Rich or poor?", "Where did these freak shows occur?", "How were these 'weirdos' treated? How did they live?", "What were the activities? Games or pure observation?", "When were they most popular? Seasonal?", and "What was the atmosphere or feel of these shows?".
